Meet Rocío Ruiz

The Story Behind Ocean Calling Retreats
I grew up by the sea in a family of forest rangers, where respect for nature and wildlife was part of everyday life. That early foundation still shapes how I approach the ocean today: with care, presence, and deep respect for the environments we enter.
My connection with the ocean deepened over time, not through speed or performance, but through stillness, attention, and the feeling of being fully present in the water. That experience shaped the kind of retreats I wanted to create: calmer, more personal, and more meaningful than standard travel experiences.
Why These Retreats Feel Different
Ocean Calling Retreats was created for thoughtful travellers who want more than a holiday. These retreats are designed for people who value calm, depth, and a more genuine connection with the ocean, including solo travellers and people looking for a more personal small-group experience.
Each retreat is intentionally small to allow for personal guidance, a calmer group dynamic, and a more thoughtful experience in and out of the water. The focus is not on rush, crowds, or performance, but on presence, care, and meaningful time in the ocean.
Ocean Calling Retreats was founded by Rocío Ruiz to create small-group ocean retreats that feel calm, personal, and deeply considered. Raised in a family of forest rangers and shaped by a global background in multilingual operations, international logistics, and retreat planning, she created these experiences for thoughtful travellers seeking a more meaningful connection with the ocean.
Founder of Ocean Calling Retreats, a diver and freediver with an international background in operations, partnerships, guest experience, business administration, and people-centred communication.
A Small-Group, Safety-First Approach
Ocean Calling Retreats is shaped by careful planning, trusted local partnerships, and a safety-first approach. The aim is to create experiences that feel calm, personal, and well supported from the first enquiry to the final day of the retreat.
These retreats are not built around mass tourism or high-pressure adventure. They are created for people who want a slower, more intentional way to experience the ocean, with space to move at their own pace and connect more meaningfully with the water.
Ocean activities are carried out in partnership with qualified local professionals and dive operators where relevant. Guests are encouraged to ask questions openly, move at a pace that feels right for them, and approach each experience with curiosity rather than pressure.
This is especially valuable for those who are new to freediving, new to scuba diving, travelling solo, or returning to the water after time away.
If you are looking for a small-group ocean retreat with thoughtful guidance, careful planning, and a calmer approach, you are warmly invited to explore the upcoming retreats.

For Beginners, Solo Travellers, and Thoughtful Ocean Lovers
Many guests come to Ocean Calling Retreats because they want an experience that feels more personal and less overwhelming. Some are complete beginners. Some are solo travellers looking for a small-group retreat that feels welcoming and supportive. Others already love the ocean but want a more intentional, ethical, and emotionally meaningful way to explore it.
You do not need to arrive fearless, highly experienced, or perfectly confident. You only need openness, respect for the ocean, and a willingness to be present.
Meet Your Host
Rocío hosts each retreat with care, honesty, and attention to the full experience, both in and out of the water. Her approach combines ocean connection, realistic support, and a quiet kind of leadership that helps guests feel at ease.
The retreats are shaped not only by her love for the sea, but also by her long-standing respect for nature, wildlife, and low-impact travel. This is what gives Ocean Calling Retreats its distinct feeling: thoughtful planning, human guidance, and experiences that are designed to be felt, not rushed.
Certified as a freediver and diver, and involved in marine conservation awareness, Rocío brings both personal passion and practical care to each retreat.
