Frequently Asked Questions
Which country does French Polynesia belong to?
French Polynesia is an overseas collectivity of France. It has its own culture and identity, but it is part of the French Republic, and short-stay entry rules follow French immigration policies.
Do I need a visa?
Depending on your nationality, you may or may not need a visa.
Many travellers — including those from the EU/Schengen area, the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Switzerland — do not need a visa for stays under 90 days.
You can check your specific requirements here:
https://france-visas.gouv.fr/en/web/france-visas/visa-assistant
What currency is used?
French Polynesia uses the CFP franc (XPF), which is pegged to the euro.
Are euros or dollars accepted?
Some hotels and larger businesses may accept euros or USD, but pricing is in CFP, and change is usually given in CFP. Credit cards are widely accepted on Mo’orea.
What language do they speak?
The official languages are French and Tahitian.
English is commonly spoken in Mo’orea’s tourism, hospitality, and diving sectors.
What is the weather like in September?

Temperatures: 26–30°C (78–86°F)
Water: 26–28°C (78–82°F)
Rain: Very low rainfall, uncommon.
Humidity: Moderate, softened by the ocean breeze
Ocean: Calm, clear water — excellent for whales sightings, calving season and diving
Where do we stay?
We stay in a comfortable island villa right above the lagoon, surrounded by mountain peaks and quiet nature.
Each guest has their own private room, while the bathrooms and kitchen are shared in a relaxed, home-style setting.
Staying together helps the group move easily through the day and creates a gentle, warm retreat atmosphere.
If you’d like to see examples of the accommodation, feel free to reach out.
Can I stay in my own villa or hotel instead?
Yes. If you prefer arranging your own villa or hotel, this can be organised. The retreat price will then be adjusted to reflect the change in accommodation.
Is this a resort or boutique hotel?
No. It is a calm, private island home rather than a resort, offering comfort, privacy, and an intimate retreat atmosphere without commercial crowds.
Are meals included?
Some meals are naturally included within our activities — such as our motu picnic, cultural evenings, or special island moments.
On other days, we are out exploring or returning at different times, so meals are not provided. This gives you the freedom to enjoy local restaurants.
Most mornings, we prepare breakfast together using simple essentials such as fruit, eggs, bread, and coffee.
You will be informed in advance which meals are included.
Do I need travel insurance?
Travel insurance is strongly recommended. It offers peace of mind in case of unexpected events such as illness, travel delays, or personal emergencies, and many plans include coverage for diving and ocean activities.
Choose a plan that suits your needs and protects your trip from unforeseen circumstances.
Is diving or freediving equipment included?
Yes — all freediving gear and scuba equipment needed for your chosen ocean path is included.
If you choose to dive with nitrox, the dive center may charge an additional fee.
Do I need experience to join?
No — beginners are welcome. Whether you choose freediving, scuba diving, or gentle coaching, everything is guided with care and adapted to your comfort.
What if I have asthma or I can’t hold my breath?
Many guests join with asthma, reduced lung capacity, or limited breath-holding ability. You don’t need long breath holds to participate.
Freediving coaching and scuba sessions are adapted to your needs, and you will always stay within your safe range.
If you have asthma, you may be asked to bring your inhaler and confirm with your doctor that you're cleared for gentle water activities.
Everything is slow, supportive, and pressure-free.
Are whale encounters guaranteed?
September offers excellent chances, but whales are wild animals. Encounters depend on ocean conditions and respectful guidelines. We always prioritise safe, ethical interactions.
Who is this retreat for?
This retreat welcomes travellers from all backgrounds, cultures, and neurotypes.
It’s designed for people who appreciate depth, nature, meaningful connection, and a thoughtfully curated ocean experience.
Can I come alone?
Absolutely. Most guests join solo, and the atmosphere is relaxed, inclusive, and naturally social.
How many guests will join?
A small, intimate group. This allows personalised guidance and space for genuine connections.
Will I get underwater photos?
Yes. A professional photographer will capture elegant underwater portraits during the retreat, and you will receive curated images afterward.
