Lithuania
The Curonian Spit is famous for dunes and millions of migrating birds. The Baltic porpoise is critically endangered and rarely detected in Lithuanian waters. Shared as a story only, with no trips.

Story only, for now. We love learning about this place and its ocean, so we share its story here and do not sell trips yet. Checked by Ocean Calling on 6 Oct 2026. Why: The Curonian Spit is a 97 km ribbon of dunes, protected as a national park since 1991 and a UNESCO World Heritage landscape since 2000. Millions of birds pass over it each year, white-tailed eagles nest there, and Baltic grey seals have grown from around 4,000 to 5,000 in the late 1980s to about 50,000 today, with a rescue centre in Klaipeda helping injured animals since 2022. We watch birds and the sea from the shore, give wildlife plenty of room and never approach it.

Why Lithuania
Lithuania is known for Vilnius, the Curonian Spit with its UNESCO dunes, and about 15 million birds on the migration route. The Baltic Proper harbour porpoise is critically endangered with fewer than 250 adults, and detections in Lithuanian waters are very low. Grey seals are increasing in the Baltic, but people do not come here for seals. This is story only and we do not go.
Conservation-led. Ocean Calling guests never chase, touch or bait animals.
