Why Greece

Greece offers clear Mediterranean water, caves and wrecks across many islands. Amorgos, Folegandros and Antiparos suit freediving and scuba among cliffs and sea caves, while Kalamata and the Athens Riviera are freediving training bases. Kea, Naxos and Kalymnos are known for wrecks, and Nisyros and Milos for volcanic underwater landscapes. Loggerhead turtles may be met around Kefalonia, Zakynthos and Crete, and Alonissos is a quiet protected marine area. June and September are often the best months.

Conservation-led. Ocean Calling guests never chase, touch or bait animals.

Our ethics check

Can we travel here ethically?

Ethics pass, with care

Good with the right operator. Here is how we choose.

Greece has clear water, caves and wrecks. Turtle spotting boats in Zakynthos can crowd loggerheads, so we do not join these trips. We choose quiet freediving and diving on reefs and walls, and if a turtle passes, we give it space. We do not offer dolphin, whale or monk seal swims.

Checked 30 Sep 2026. Places change, so we look again every year.
