Denmark
Little Belt is one of the densest harbour porpoise areas in the world. Shared as a story only, with no trips.

Story only, for now. We love learning about this place and its ocean, so we share its story here and do not sell trips yet. Checked by Ocean Calling on 6 Oct 2026. Sources: Harbour porpoise protection guidelines for motorboat drivers in Lillebaelt, Boote Magazin; Explainer on porpoises, University of Southern Denmark; Foreign travel advice Denmark, UK FCDO.
Why: Harbour porpoises live in Danish waters, including about 14,000 to 16,000 in the inner Belt Sea around the Little Belt. Lillebælt Nature Park, with Aarhus University research, asks boat drivers to keep at least 50 m from porpoises and 200 m if a calf is with them, slow to 5 knots within 300 m, switch off echo sounders, never chase and never split mothers from calves. We would only watch from a boat that follows these guidelines, from a respectful distance, never feeding or approaching.

Why Denmark
The Little Belt, between Funen and Jutland, is often described as one of the densest harbour porpoise areas in the world, and porpoises live there all year. Harbour seals and grey seals rest on sandbanks at places like Anholt and Laeso, and Atlantic bluefin tuna have returned to the Oresund. The water is cold and the rules are strict, with at least 50 m distance from marine mammals. We see this as a watch-only story and we do not go.
Conservation-led. Ocean Calling guests never chase, touch or bait animals.
