🧭 Travel advice, checked 30 Sep 2026. The UK FCDO advises against all travel within 10km of the border with Syria, due to fighting and a heightened risk of terrorism. The rest of the country is not under that warning. Sources: UK FCDO travel advice, Türkiye Advice differs by passport: check your own government before you plan.

Why Türkiye

Kaş is a freediving-led coast with very warm water, loggerhead and green turtles, groupers, octopus and rays, and good food on land. Mediterranean monk seals are seen only rarely. September to early October is best, and May and June are also good.

Conservation-led. Ocean Calling guests never chase, touch or bait animals.

Our ethics check

Can we travel here ethically?

Ethics pass, with care

Good with the right operator. Here is how we choose.

Since 2006 the Kaş coast is part of the specially protected Kekova area, and turtles, groupers and octopus can be met calmly on a freediving day. Mediterranean monk seals are rare and easily scared by divers in their caves. Türkiye has also had many dolphin parks, so we never visit captive dolphins, we never enter seal caves, and we watch any seal only from far away.

Evidence is still thin here. We are checking again with official sources.

Checked 26 Sep 2026. Places change, so we look again every year.
