Story only

Story only, for now. We love learning about this place and its ocean, so we share its story here and do not sell trips yet. Checked by Ocean Calling on 6 Oct 2026. Sources: Mooring permits, BIOT Administration; Visa requirements, BIOT Administration, updated 24 Apr 2026; Marine protected area, BIOT Administration.

Why: The Chagos waters are a large no-take marine protected area, and that protection is strong, so the animals here are left completely in peace. The islands are not open to tourism: new permits have been paused since March 2026, diving and commercial activity are not allowed, and the right of people of Chagossian origin to live there is still in court. So we share this place as a story and do not go.

Why Chagos (British Indian Ocean Territory)

The Chagos Archipelago is administered by the UK as the British Indian Ocean Territory, and its waters have been a large no-take marine protected area since 2010. It is not a tourist destination. There are no commercial flights, new entry permits have been paused since 31 March 2026, and diving and commercial activity are not allowed. The UK and Mauritius signed a treaty in 2025 that is not yet in force, so the rules may change. The right of people of Chagossian origin to live on the islands is still in the courts, and we will not market the islands.

Conservation-led. Ocean Calling guests never chase, touch or bait animals.
