Why Seychelles
Mahé offers freediving and reef days with turtles, and a seasonal whale shark science programme, with whale sharks usually from August to November. On Praslin and Curieuse, snorkelling brings turtles and reef fish, and giant tortoises live on Curieuse. La Digue is a slow island for beaches and nature, a gentle extension for non-divers. Dolphins and whales are seen only occasionally, from the boat.
Conservation-led. Ocean Calling guests never chase, touch or bait animals.
When to go

Can we travel here ethically?
Ethics pass
Meets the Ocean Calling standard.
In the Seychelles the whale shark is protected by law, and a research group code asks swimmers to keep 3 m from the head, 4 m from the tail, never touch and use no flash, with no more than 8 swimmers. We join whale shark days that follow this code, snorkel quietly with turtles and see dolphins only from the boat.
Checked 30 Sep 2026. Places change, so we look again every year.
