Why Montserrat
People come for the Soufriere Hills volcano, the exclusion zone and a quiet north. It is not an ocean week. Green and hawksbill turtles feed and nest here. A turtle law described in 2023 and 2024 papers appears to allow taking turtles from 1 October to 31 May, including nesting females and eggs. Until that changes, we offer no turtle trip. Story only.
Conservation-led. Ocean Calling guests never chase, touch or bait animals.

Can we travel here ethically?
Ethics pass, with care
Good with the right operator. Here is how we choose.
Ethical turtle experiences cannot happen while nesting females can be taken in the open season. We avoid every turtle product here until the law changes, and we do not write that turtles are fully protected. UK advice, last updated on 3 July 2026, lists volcano hazard level 1, with no public access to Zone V.
Evidence is still thin here. We are checking again with official sources.
