Story only

Story only, for now. We love learning about this place and its ocean, so we share its story here and do not sell trips yet. Checked by Ocean Calling on 6 Oct 2026. Sources: New rules for whale watching, Reserve Naturelle Nationale de Saint-Martin; When I watch cetaceans, Agoa Sanctuary; Biodiversite: nouvel arrete en vigueur, Outremers 360.

Why: The French side of Saint Martin lies inside the Agoa marine mammal sanctuary. A prefectoral order in force since 1 September 2024 keeps everyone 300 metres from whales, and only trained professionals who have signed the Agoa charter may approach to 100 metres, with no swimming, no touching and no feeding. The national nature reserve there also studies humpback whale migration with the Megaptera association, and we watch from a respectful distance and never go in the water with whales.

🧭 Travel advice, checked 30 Sep 2026. The US State Department (14 August 2026) advises normal precautions for French Saint Martin, Level 1. Hurricane season runs June to November. Why Saint Martin

People come for beaches and the easy mix of two flags on one island. The French waters are part of the Agoa sanctuary, where nobody may come within 300 m of a whale, and swimming with whales is not allowed. Turtles nest on the island, and the nearby Dutch marine park protects reef and turtles.

Conservation-led. Ocean Calling guests never chase, touch or bait animals.
