Can we travel here ethically?
Ethics pass, with care
Good with the right operator. Here is how we choose.
Samoa has marine wildlife regulations for sharks, whales, dolphins and turtles, and wild reef days are calm and simple. On Savaii, turtles are kept in a small pool and fed papaya for visitors, and a local guide advises people to skip it. Ocean Calling chooses wild reefs, meets turtles only if they pass by, and watches humpback whales from the boat.
Checked 26 Sep 2026. Places change, so we look again every year.
