Story only

Story only, for now. We love learning about this place and its ocean, so we share its story here and do not sell trips yet. Checked by Ocean Calling on 6 Oct 2026. Sources: Monitoring data of marine turtles on the Togolese coast 2012-2013 - ZooKeys; Turtle conservation in Togo and Benin - Boskalis; Togo travel advice - UK FCDO.

Why: Five sea turtle species are recorded off Togo, and olive ridley and leatherback turtles nest on the beaches between Lomé and Aného, with Kpémé a favourite nesting site. Local ecoguards and fishermen, supported by the Togolese NGO AGBO-ZEGUE, patrol beaches at night, and new hatcheries and coastal protection work started in 2025 near Gbodjomé-Agbodrafo. We celebrate this community work and, if we ever visit, we would watch from a respectful distance and never touch, move or disturb a turtle or its eggs.

Turtles

Why Togo

Togo has only about 56 km of coast, but monitoring in 2012 and 2013 recorded 740 turtle occurrences between Lomé and Aného: olive ridley, green and leatherback. The Coastal Wetlands of Togo have been a Ramsar site since 2007.

Conservation-led. Ocean Calling guests never chase, touch or bait animals.
