Can we travel here ethically?
Ethics pass, with care
Good with the right operator. Here is how we choose.
On the Pacific coast, the government gives clear guidance for watching humpback whales from the boat, with few boats and short, calm time near each group. In San Andrés, feeding sharks and stingrays to attract visitors is banned since 2022, but it still happens at some cays. We watch whales only from the boat, and on the reefs we choose quiet snorkels and dives with no feeding and no touching.
Checked 26 Sep 2026. Places change, so we look again every year.
